Precipitation Impacted Harvest Last Week

Rainfall and snow slowed Iowa’s harvest last week.

According to the latest crop progress report from the U.S. Department of Agriculture, corn harvested for grain statewide went from 62 to 77 percent, which is one day ahead of last year and eight days ahead of the five-year average. 77 percent of northwest Iowa corn has been harvested.

Soybeans inched closer to being finished as the harvest number went from 87 to 93 percent, which is on pace with last year and eight days ahead of the average. 96 percent of northwest Iowa soybeans have been harvested.

28 percent of northwest Iowa topsoil is short or very short of moisture, down four percent from last week. 49 percent of northwest Iowa subsoil is short or very short of moisture, which is 11 percent less than a week ago.

A little over three days were suitable for fieldwork in northwest Iowa. A bit more than four days were suitable statewide.
