Palo Alto County Man Convicted of Drug Offense Near Emmetsburg High School

A man will serve between five and 80 years in prison for intending to distribute methamphetamine near the Emmetsburg High School.

57-year-old David Specketer of Emmetsburg pleaded guilty Thursday in Sioux City Federal Court to Possession With Intent to Distribute Methamphetamine Within One Thousand Feet of a Protected Location. He was previously convicted of Conspiracy to Manufacture and Distribute Methamphetamine in 2013.

At the plea hearing, Specketer admitted that on April 15th of this year while living in Emmetsburg, law enforcement attempted to arrest him at his residence for an outstanding arrest warrant. The warrant involved a pending 2022 case in Woodbury County for Possession With Intent to Deliver Methamphetamine. Specketer attempted to flee back into his residence after initial contact with law enforcement at his door. Law enforcement apprehended Specketer in his residence with approximately one ounce of meth. At the hearing, Specketer admitted he intended to distribute all or some of the methamphetamine to another. Specketer’s residence is within one thousand feet of the Emmetsburg High School.

Sentencing will be set after a presentence report is prepared. Specketer remains in custody of the U.S. Marshals Service pending sentencing. Along with five to 80 years in federal prison, Specketer faces a ten million dollar fine, and at least eight years of supervised release following imprisonment.
