One of the Spencer School District Buildings Was Heavily Impacted by Flooding

The Superintendent of the Spencer Community School District says they are committed to starting school on time for students on Friday, August 23rd as scheduled, even though one of its buildings sustained heavy damage in the flood.

In an email to district patrons, Superintendent Terry Heman says Lincoln Elementary sustained significant damage and will not be ready to open for students and staff on that date. Heman says 3rd, 4th, and 5th grade students will be relocated to other schools within the Spencer district.

Heman says the flooding also impacted Johnson Elementary and that a contractor is onsite. He says he’s confident that the building will be able to open on time this fall. Heman says the remainder of the Spencer School District’s buildings were unaffected.
