Nine Northwest Iowa Communities Join Hometown Pride Program

Nine northwest Iowa communities have officially joined the state’s Hometown Pride program.

The communities include Storm Lake, Albert City, Alta, Aurelia, Lake Park, Lakeside, Marathon, Royal, and Sioux Rapids. The City of Storm Lake approved its contract for the program two months ago. The program is meant to enhance physical, cultural, and economic improvements in communities. The nine communities have formed an alliance, and are committed to five years in the program. The total annual cost of 20 thousand dollars in matching funds is divided among the communities based on population. Carissa Harvey will serve as the community coach for the nine communities.

The Hometown Pride program is operated by the “Keep Iowa Beautiful” organization. A total of 118 communities have taken part since 2012. Hometown Pride is made possible through the support of private donors, the Iowa Economic Development Authority, and participating communities.
