Newell Man Receives OWI, Child Endangerment Charges Following Traffic Stop

A Newell man was arrested on multiple charges this past weekend after his vehicle was stopped for a traffic violation in Clay County.

According to the Clay County Sheriff’s Office, the traffic stop happened late in the afternoon this past Saturday in the five-thousand mile of Highway 71. A deputy smelled the odor of an alcoholic beverage emanating from the vehicle. The driver, 35-year-old Peter Wiebe of Newell, admitted to having consumed alcoholic beverages and was put through a series of field sobriety tests.

Following completion of the tests, Wiebe was arrested and charged with 2nd Offense Operating While Intoxicated, and two counts of Child Endangerment, all aggravated misdemeanors. He was booked into the Clay County Jail.
