The newest member of the Storm Lake Police Department was sworn in this (Wed) morning.

Officer Winey is a Denison native, and graduated from the Denison Schleswig High School in 2016. He studied graphic design at the Creative Center College in Omaha, and joined the Denison Police Department in June of 2021 as a patrol officer. Winey graduated from the Iowa Law Enforcement Academy, and has also served as a volunteer firefighter in Denison.

When he’s off-duty, Officer Winey enjoys spending time outdoors, especially mountain biking and backpacking.
According to Storm Lake Assistant Police Chief Patrick Diekman, the department is looking to bring in a couple more officers, as they have an opening at the moment, and one of their current officers is set to retire in May.
