New Storm Lake Fire House will Debut at Kids Fest

The Storm Lake Fire Department received a Fire Safety House this week, which will be on display for its public debut at Kids Fest. Kids Fest is being held on Sunday, June 25th at Awaysis Park in Storm Lake from 12-3 pm.

The firehouse helps to teach children safe ways to act in the event of a home fire. The lower level is set up to simulate a living room complete with a TV screen to show educational materials and a fireplace. The upper level is a mock bedroom with a window exit and a fire escape ladder. A door in that area heats up, to a safe level, to help children learn how to identify a safe exit route.

The SLFD has gone through demonstrations, Fire Safety Week Presentations, School Visits, Smoke and Carbon Monoxide Detector giveaways, and other methods to raise awareness in the community in recent months. The purpose of the firehouse is to further expand that on the educational front.

Again, Kids Fest will be June 25th from noon to 3 pm at Awaysis Park in Storm Lake. Admission is free with lots of activities for children. The City of Storm Lake and King’s Pointe Waterpark Resort are co-sponsoring the event.
