“National Night Out” will be held tomorrow (Tues), and Storm Lake will be among the communities participating.
“National Night Out” is an annual community-building campaign promoting police-community partnerships and neighborhood camaraderie. The event allows public safety personnel and neighbors to unite under positive circumstances.
15 block parties will be held in Storm Lake during this year’s event. Police, firefighters, ambulance crews, and city officials will be stopping by the block parties to visit with residents. Public safety staff will share tips on how to keep homes and neighborhoods safe, and how to report anything out of the ordinary.
Storm Lake is one of thousands of communities working to create safer, more caring places to live. The “National Night Out” movement has grown over the years to include more than 17 thousand communities in all 50 states, U.S. Territories, and military bases worldwide. More than 38 million neighbors have taken part in the gatherings to date.
This is the 41st anniversary of the “National Night Out” program. Storm Lake has participated since 1990. Anyone interested in hosting a local block party next year may contact Lieutenant Alyssa Solem at the Storm Lake Police Department.
