The victim drove away and a large crowd followed and encountered the victim after he parked. The victim was assaulted by several individuals which caused serious facial injuries, including several broken bones. Several people from a nearby residence attempted to intervene, and the group of suspects began assaulting them. One suspect reportedly threatened others with a handgun. The suspects fled the scene on foot and were tracked to a residence at 725 Lilly Court in Storm Lake. A perimeter was set up, and several suspects exited the residence after approximately three hours. Two handguns were located in the residence, and one of them was reportedly stolen from Cherokee.
