More cases of bird flu have been confirmed in commercial turkey flocks in the area over the last few days.
Agriculture officials today (Sun) confirmed cases in Buena Vista and Cherokee counties. On Friday, bird flu was confirmed in a commercial turkey flock in Sac county.
Bird flu has now been confirmed in ten flocks statewide this fall, including two in BV, Sac, and Cherokee counties. A total of 29 flocks have been infected in Iowa this year.
Commercial and backyard flock owners are encouraged to prevent contact with their birds and wild birds. Signs of bird flu include lethargy and lack of energy and appetite, decrease in egg production, difficulty breathing, and stumbling and falling down. If producers suspect signs of bird flu in their flocks, they are urged to contact their veterinarian immediately.
