Member of The Senders Reflects on the End of the Band’s Six-Decade Run

Iowa’s longest-running rock-and-roll band, The Senders, played what was billed as their final show on New Year’s Eve in Spirit Lake.

Band member Dave Schossow said emotions were running high that night…

Dave’s brother Don is also a member of the band.

Dave isn’t sure what the future holds…

Dave said health issues were a major factor in ending the band’s long run…

The band began in Newell in 1962 under the name Johnny and the Sting Rays. They changed their name to The Senders in 1964. They’ve had 26 different band members over the years. Their website states that the Cobblestone in Storm Lake was among their favorite ballrooms to perform in. The Senders were inducted into the Iowa Rock-and-Roll Hall of Fame in 2005.
