The City of Storm Lake has made adjustments to its Mandatory Water Conservation measures to avoid spikes in usage, while still accommodating public needs.
Several measures will be in place through July 31st.
Lawn watering will only be allowed on Tuesdays, Thursdays, Saturdays, and Sundays outside the hours of 8am and 8pm. Residents are encouraged to use sprinklers in an efficient manner so water is not wasted on sidewalks and driveways. When watering gardens and flowers, avoid the peak heat of the day when the water evaporates quickly.
Residential car washing will be allowed at any time on Saturdays and Sundays, as recent water demand has been slightly lower on those days. Residents are still encouraged to wash vehicles in a way so water isn’t wasted running into storm sewers.
Business and home power washing is only allowed on Saturdays and Sundays. Power washing on weekdays may only be done with permission from the City of Storm Lake. Call 732-8000.
Swimming pools can be filled or re-filled only on Saturdays and Sundays. Water can be added to a pool to replace evaporation loss as needed.
Use of water to clean driveways and sidewalks should continue to be avoided. Use a broom or blower to clean concrete areas.
The mandatory conservation measures will be reevaluated at the end of July.
