The City of Storm Lake is implementing mandatory water conservation measures for a two-week period beginning today (Tues) through August 1st.
The announcement was made during Monday’s city council meeting by City Manager Keri Navratil, who said two of Storm Lake’s water wells are currently out of commission, which limits the amount of water that can be pumped, and puts stress on the remaining wells…
The City will have an additional need for water during the RAGBRAI overnight stop this coming Sunday. The mandatory water conservation measures are the same as during voluntary periods, but municipal infractions will be issued for violations. Navratil said the mandatory period may be lifted shortly before the two-week period expires depending on well repairs and demand.
Storm Lake’s mandatory water conservation measures include no watering between the hours of 10am and 5pm. The full list of measures can be found below.
• Minimize lawn and flower bed watering. No watering between the hours of 10 a.m.-5 p.m. when use is highest and evaporation makes watering less efficient.
• Minimize car washing.
• Do not use water to clean driveways and sidewalks. Use a broom instead of hose to clean patios, sidewalks and driveways.
• No power washing of buildings or concrete is allowed.
• Outdoor pools may only be filled between the hours of 8-10 p.m. p.m. with a permit.
