A Nebraska man wanted on several Buena Vista County warrants related to a pursuit late last year was arrested earlier this week.
According to the Storm Lake Police Department, 29-year-old Jaime Hernandez was located around 10:40 Monday morning in the 600 block of Geneseo Street. He was wanted for Driving While Barred, Eluding, and 3rd Offense Possession of Marijuana, all aggravated misdemeanors…and simple misdemeanor charges of Reckless Driving, Failure to Yield to an Emergency Vehicle, Speeding, Interference With Official Acts, and Failure to Obey a Stop Sign.
The warrants stemmed from a brief pursuit on December 4th of last year. At approximately 3:40 that morning, a Storm Lake Police officer attempted to conduct a traffic stop on a vehicle driven by Hernandez in the 100 block of West Railroad Street for a speeding violation. Hernandez allegedly failed to stop for the officer and fled in his vehicle for several blocks until he was stopped in the 200 block of Superior Street and fled on foot. A Storm Lake Police K-9 was deployed, and the K-9 indicated the odor of narcotics coming from the vehicle. A subsequent search yielded approximately six grams of marijuana. Police were unable to locate Hernandez at that time.
During Hernandez’ arrest on Monday, he was also found to be in possession of methamphetamine. Hernandez was additionally charged with Possession of a Controlled Substance Methamphetamine, a class D felony. He was booked into the Buena Vista County Jail on a 17-thousand dollar bond.
