The man accused of stabbing his brother to death in Galva over a year ago has been found guilty, and could spend up to 50 years in prison.
According to court documents, 26-year-old Jesus Diaz was originally charged with 1st Degree Murder, but a jury on Wednesday found him guilty and he was convicted for 2nd Degree Murder. Diaz will be sentenced on March 22nd. A conviction of 2nd Degree Murder in Iowa carries a maximum penalty of 50 years behind bars.
The incident happened during the evening of November 13th of 2022. Diaz reportedly stabbed his brother Eduardo multiple times in the chest and abdomen during a fight on Main Street in Galva. Eduardo collapsed and died on a sidewalk. Witnesses claimed that Jesus punched and kicked Eduardo after he collapsed. Jesus crossed the street and then returned to continue beating Eduardo’s body. He was reportedly covered in blood when he was arrested. Authorities discovered a bloody knife in the back seat of Jesus’ vehicle.
