Man Charged With Attempted Murder Following Stabbing in Storm Lake

A Laurens man has been charged with multiple felonies, including attempted murder, following a stabbing incident in Storm Lake.

According to the Storm Lake Police Department, the incident occurred shortly before 5pm Monday. A male victim reported to police that he had been stabbed and was being chased by another male. The victim was able to escape from the attack and ran into the main entrance of the Buena Vista Regional Medical Center. The victim identified the suspect as 31-year-old Oscar Ortiz of Laurens. Ortiz fled the area in a vehicle, but shortly after surrendered at the Storm Lake Police Department.

An investigation determined that Ortiz confronted the victim outside of 1601 Lochedum Drive and stabbed him five times in the upper torso. Ortiz also allegedly stole the victim’s phone. The victim was treated for serious injuries at BVRMC, and was flown to another hospital for further treatment.

Ortiz was charged with Attempted Murder and 1st Degree Robbery, both class B felonies…Willful Injury Causing Serious Injury and Assault While Participating in a Felony, both class C felonies…and Going Armed With Intent, a class D felony. He was booked into the Buena Vista County Jail on a 75-thousand dollar bond.

The Storm Lake Police Department was assisted by the Buena Vista County Sheriff’s Office and the BV County Attorney’s Office.
