Man Charged Following Vehicle Accident in Storm Lake

A man was charged following a traffic accident that injured a juvenile passenger.

According to the Storm Lake Police Department, officers responded to 8 South Windsor Circle shortly before 10:20pm Monday. It was determined that 37-year-old Ketson Saperna was driving a vehicle with three juveniles inside when he reportedly collided with an unattended parked motor vehicle. One of the children sustained a head injury during the collision. The child was transported by ambulance to the Buena Vista Regional Medical Center, and was treated for minor injuries. Officers further determined that Saperna was impaired.

Saperna was charged with three counts of Neglect of a Dependent Person, a class C felony…Operating While Intoxicated, a serious misdemeanor…and simple misdemeanor charges of No Driver’s License, No Insurance Accident Related, and Failure to Maintain Control of a Vehicle.

Saperna was booked into the Buena Vista County Jail on a bond of nearly 33 thousand dollars.

The Storm Lake Police Department was assisted on scene by the Buena Vista Regional Medical Center paramedics. The case was referred to the Iowa Department of Health and Human Services.
