A man who led authorities on a pursuit from Humboldt into Pocahontas County earlier this month has been arrested.
The incident began early in the morning of August 6th when a Humboldt County deputy attempted to conduct a traffic stop on a flatbed pickup that was allegedly speeding and driving recklessly on Highway 3 through Humboldt. The driver failed to stop, which led to a pursuit into Pocahontas County. The pursuit ended near the Highway 3 and county road N-65 intersection when the driver drove through several farm fields trying to avoid capture. The vehicle was recovered in a dredge ditch, but the driver wasn’t located at that time. The truck was reportedly stolen that morning near Collins.
Evidence was obtained from inside the truck, and a joint investigation with the Story County Sheriff’s Office led to the suspect being identified as 39-year-old Daniel Coonfield of Des Moines. Coonfield was arrested on unrelated charges this past Saturday in Hamilton County. He was transferred yesterday (Mon) to the Humboldt County Jail on a charge of Eluding, a class C felony. Coonfield was booked on a ten thousand dollar bond.
Charges are pending in Story County relating to the stolen truck. Charges are also pending in Pocahontas County relating to damage done to farm fields.
