Lakeside Man Already in Federal Prison Sentenced on Other Charges

A Lakeside man, who is already serving time in prison for federal firearms violations, was sentenced last week in Buena Vista County District Court to serve up to ten years in prison on multiple state charges.

46-year-old Leonard Weimer pleaded guilty to Operating While Intoxicated 3rd or Subsequent Offense and 2nd Degree Theft, both class D felonies. He was sentenced to serve up to five years in prison on each count with the Iowa Department of Corrections, for a total of up to ten years in prison.

On May 18th of last year, Weimer was arrested in Storm Lake for possessing a stolen Honda four-wheeler. Two years ago, Weimer was arrested at the intersection of Erie and East Railroad Streets in Storm Lake for driving under the influence. He previously was convicted for OWI’s in 2017 and 2018.

The sentence will run consecutively to the federal sentence previously imposed. In June of this year, Weimer was sentenced in Sioux City Federal Court to serve eight years in prison for possessing a stolen firearm and ammunition.
