Lake Improvement Commission Elects Chairperson/Vice Chairperson

The Lake Improvement Commission filled a couple of vacancies during their meeting Monday afternoon at Storm Lake City Hall.

Meg McKeon was elected chairperson of the commission, and Kathy Croker was elected as vice-chairperson.

The Lake Improvement Commission discussed a water monitoring system recommended by the Department of Natural Resources. The DNR would calibrate and maintain the station to record real-time data on aspects such as depth and water temperature. The volunteer Lake Preservation Association may contribute half of the cost. The remaining cost would possibly be split between the LIC entities which include the cities of Storm Lake and Lakeside, and Buena Vista County. Individual councils and boards will make their funding determinations.

The commission also discussed Storm Lake’s plans to establish a recreation park on the former spoil site. A portion of the land in the area is owned by the Lake Improvement Commission. LIC members would like to update the abstract and make sure the land title is clear before transferring it to the city.

The next Lake Improvement Commission public session meeting will be held on June 24th.
