Lake City Family Receiving Good Farm Neighbor Award

A Lake City family is receiving a Wergin Good Farm Neighbor Award.

The Schleisman family will be honored during an event tomorrow (Fri) at 11am at their family farm in Lake City. The Wergin Good Farm Neighbor Award recognizes Iowa livestock farmers who take pride in caring for the environment and their livestock, and have demonstrated a commitment to their community. The award is named in memory of longtime radio farm broadcaster Gary Wergin.

M&M Farms, owned and operated by Mark and Melissa Schleisman, is a diversified family farm that was established in 1997. They sell approximately 34-thousand hogs and grow 17-hundred acres of popcorn and popcorn seed each year. The Schleisman’s incorporate proven conservation practices into all elements of their operation. They utilize grass waterways, filter strips, pollinator habitat, pheasant and upland bird habitat, food plots, terraces, bioreactors, saturated buffers, wetlands, and water reuse for nutrient management.
