Juvenile in Florida Taken Into Custody For Making Social Media Threat That Was Thought to Possibly be Directed at the South Central Calhoun School District

A juvenile from another jurisdiction has been apprehended in connection to a social media threat that was thought to possibly involve the South Central Calhoun School District.

According to SCC superintendent Brad Anderson, he received an email yesterday (Mon) around 4:30pm from a former student who was concerned about a Snapchat that one of her relatives received and had been forwarded to her. The content of the Snapchat indicated that “Lake City High School and/or Middle School as being the next spot for a school shooting.” There was no date, time, or indication of which Lake City…Iowa, Minnesota, or Florida, the sender was referring to, and no local implications at that point of who sent the original message. South Central Calhoun’s high school is in Lake City. The incident was reported to multiple law enforcement agencies, including the Calhoun County Sheriff’s Office.

It’s since been confirmed the incident occurred in Lake City, FLORIDA. A 13-year-old student has been arrested.

According to Anderson, school has been in session today (Tues) at South Central Calhoun with additional police presence available.
