The planting progress for Iowa farmers was slowed somewhat last week due to wet conditions. Just over 3.5 days were suitable for fieldwork last week in northwest Iowa, and statewide.
92-percent of corn in northwest Iowa is now planted. One-fifth of corn was planted last week statewide of a total of 86-percent, which is eight days ahead of last year, and one week ahead of the five-year average.
63-percent of soybeans in northwest Iowa have now been planted. 69-percent of soybeans have been planted statewide, just over a week ahead of last year and the average.
Warm temperatures last week did help crop emergence. 32-percent of northwest Iowa corn has emerged. 35-percent of corn is now emerged statewide, which is six days ahead of last year, and two days ahead of the average.
Ten-percent of northwest Iowa soybeans have now emerged. 19-percent of soybeans have emerged statewide, which is nine days ahead of last year, and five days ahead of the average.
Northwest Iowa topsoil that’s either short or very short of moisture is at 26-percent, a drop of 13-percent from the previous week.
