Iowa Central Community College has received a 119 thousand dollar grant from the U.S. Department of Transportation’s Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration.
The funding is through the Commercial Motor Vehicle Operational Safety program, and will expand opportunities for veterans and individuals from underrepresented communities to obtain their Commercial Driver’s License and pursue careers in the trucking and transportation industries.
The grant is part of a larger initiative by the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration to improve driver safety and reduce the number of crashes, injuries, and fatalities involving large trucks and buses. The funding will specifically focus on increasing the number of CDL holders with enhanced safety training, with a strong emphasis on providing opportunities for current or former military service members and individuals from rural, refugee, and underserved communities.
Iowa Central Community College is based in Fort Dodge, with additional campuses in Storm Lake and Webster City.
