The Iowa harvest season is underway.
According to the USDA Crop Progress Report, three percent of corn in northwest Iowa has been harvested for grain. Five percent of corn statewide has been harvested, which is five days behind last year, but equal to the five-year average. 77 percent of corn in Iowa is rated good-to-excellent.
The report says seven percent of soybeans in northwest Iowa have been harvested. Nine percent of soybeans have been harvested statewide, which is the same as last year at this time, and one day ahead of the five-year average. Like corn, soybeans are rated 77 percent good-to-excellent.
There were just over six days suitable for fieldwork in northwest Iowa last week, with slightly more available statewide. 53 percent of northwest Iowa topsoil has adequate moisture, with 46 percent short or very short, and one percent surplus. 65 percent of northwest Iowa subsoil has adequate moisture, with 34 percent short or very short, and one percent surplus.
