Harvest Continues; Updated Statistics

The continued hot and dry weather last week did give Iowa farmers 6.5 days suitable for fieldwork, according to the crop progress report from the U.S. Department of Agriculture.

Closer to the full week was available for fieldwork in northwest Iowa.

Corn harvested for grain reached 11 percent, which is three days behind last year, but equal to the five-year average. Nine percent of northwest Iowa corn has been harvested. Corn condition remained at 77 percent good-to-excellent.

Soybeans harvested for grain in northwest Iowa reached 27 percent, which is the same percentage statewide, and that’s three days ahead of both last year and the five-year average. Soybeans rated good-to-excellent dropped slightly to 77 percent.

43 percent of northwest Iowa topsoil has adequate moisture, down ten percent from last week. 49 percent of subsoil in northwest Iowa has adequate moisture, down 16 percent from last week.
