The teenage girl found dead in the Calhoun County community of Farnhamville earlier this week has been identified, and a suspect in the case has now been charged with murder.

17-year-old Michele “Luna” Jackson was reported missing this past Sunday evening. Jackson’s body was reportedly discovered in a cornfield Monday morning. 21-year-old Nathaniel Bevers-McGivney of Gowrie has been arrested in connection to the case. According to the Calhoun County Sheriff’s Office, Bevers-McGivney has now been charged with First Degree Murder. He’s also been charged with Abuse of a Corpse and Failure to Disclose Known Location.

According to a criminal complaint, Bevers-McGivney deliberately cut the victim’s throat with a knife. Bevers-McGivney is being held in the Carroll County Jail.

According to information on the Laufersweiler Palmer and Sons Funeral Home website, private family services for Jackson are being held tomorrow (Thur) at the funeral home in Gowrie.

A woman reportedly contacted the Calhoun County Sheriff’s office Sunday evening to report her daughter missing. She and her other daughter were out walking and looking for the missing daughter when they came upon Bevers-McGivney, who was “covered in apparent blood” and was in possession of the missing daughter’s scooter and other belongings.

Law enforcement believes this was an isolated event, and there is no ongoing threat to public safety. The Calhoun County Sheriff’s Office was assisted by several agencies including the Rockwell City and Lake City Police Departments, Calhoun County Emergency Medical Services, and Calhoun County Emergency Management Agency.
