Former Sioux City Nurse Pleads Guilty to Child Pornography and Fraud Charges ; Was Previously Convicted in BV County for Child Porn Possession

A Sioux City man who was convicted in Buena Vista County three decades ago for possessing child pornography faces up to a total of 24 years in prison after pleading guilty to multiple charges in Sioux City Federal Court.

67-year-old Douglas Kelley pleaded guilty last Thursday to Possession of Child Pornography and Conspiracy to Acquire Controlled Substances by Fraud. At the plea hearing, Kelley admitted that he knowingly possessed child porn, including a depiction involving a minor under the age of 12. Kelley was previously convicted of offenses related to possession of child pornography in Buena Vista County back in 1993.

In a plea agreement, Kelley admitted that he knowingly distributed fentanyl, and conspired to distribute amphetamine, and also conspired to obtain and acquire fentanyl by means of misrepresentation, fraud, and deception. Kelley used his position as a nurse at MercyOne Hospital in Sioux City to obtain fentanyl and other controlled substances to illegally distribute to others.

Sentencing will be set after a pre-sentence report is prepared. Kelley is being held in the custody of the U.S. Marshal. He faces between ten and 20 years in prison on the Possession of Child Pornography count, and up to four years for Conspiracy to Acquire Controlled Substances by Fraud.
