An individual who had previously been reported missing has died in the Clay County flooding.
According to the Clay County Sheriff’s Office, a call was received on Saturday regarding a pickup that was seen trying to cross rapid flood waters in the 34 hundred mile of 240th Avenue, also known as East Beltway on the east edge of Spencer. Authorities learned the pickup was occupied by a man identified as William Schultze of Elburn, Illinois. The pickup had reportedly been swept away in the Little Sioux River. According to a witness, the vehicle floated out of sight and disappeared to the east. A search was conducted by several agencies. The pickup was discovered later in a tree line, and Schultze was determined to be deceased.
Authorities attempted to recover Schultze previously, but that had to be called off due to dangerous conditions. He was recovered earlier Monday. Schultze was reported missing by officials in Illinois on Saturday.
