Female Rescued After Vehicle She Was Driving Became Trapped in Flooded Clay County Ditch

A female was rescued from a vehicle that became trapped in a flooded ditch in rural Clay County.

The Clay County Sheriff’s Office was called to the 23 hundred mile of 300th Street around 6:40 this (Thur) morning. A vehicle was discovered in the ditch with water up to the windshield, and water was starting to enter the vehicle. Two citizens assisted officers as they broke the rear window and removed the driver, identified as Norma Hanson of rural Spencer. Hanson had reportedly attempted to cross the flooded roadway and began to hydroplane, which caused her to lose control of the vehicle.

No injuries were reported from the incident. The Clay County Sheriff’s Office reminds the public that it’s never safe to cross a flooded road.
