Excessive Heat Warning Will Kick In Today Through Mid-Week

The National Weather Service has issued an Excessive Heat Warning for Buena Vista and surrounding counties from noon today (Mon) through late in the evening on Wednesday.

Dangerously hot conditions will be in place, with heat index values of up to 115. Extreme heat and humidity will significantly increase the potential for heat-related illnesses, particularly for those working or participating in outdoor activities.

The National Weather Service urges citizens to drink plenty of fluids, stay in an air-conditioned room, stay out of the sun, and don’t leave young children and pets unattended in vehicles under any circumstances. Take extra precautions if you work or spend time outside. When possible, reschedule strenuous activities to early morning or evening. Wear lightweight and loose-fitting clothing when possible. The Occupational Safety and Health Administration recommends scheduling frequent rest breaks in shaded or air-conditioned environments to reduce risk during outdoor work.
