Emergency Alert Tests to be Conducted Wednesday

A nationwide test of the Emergency Alert System and Wireless Emergency Alerts will be conducted tomorrow (Wed) afternoon.

Both tests are scheduled to begin at approximately 1:20pm Wednesday. The EAS portion of the test will be sent to radios and televisions, including on the Storm Lake Radio stations. The WEA portion of the test will be directed to all consumer cell phones. The test message will display in either English or Spanish, depending on the language settings of the wireless handset.

The Federal Emergency Management Agency is coordinating the tests along with the Federal Communications Commission. The tests are meant to ensure that systems continue to be effective in warning the public about emergencies, particularly at the national level.
