Warm and mostly dry conditions last week aided the Iowa harvest.
According to the most recent USDA Crop Progress Report, 15-percent of northwest Iowa corn has now been harvested for grain. 16-percent of corn has been harvested statewide, which is four days ahead of both last year and the five-year average. Moisture content of field corn being harvested was 20-percent. Corn rated good-to-excellent improved slightly to 51-percent.
28-percent of northwest Iowa soybeans have been harvested. 24-percent of soybeans have been harvested statewide, which is one day better than last year and equal to the five-year average. Soybeans rated good-to-excellent improved by two-percent to 49-percent.
57-percent of topsoil and 65-percent of subsoil in northwest Iowa are considered short or very short of moisture.
There were nearly five days suitable for fieldwork last week in northwest Iowa, and 5.7 days were suitable statewide.
