A case of bird flu has been confirmed in Buena Vista County.
On Thursday afternoon, Governor Reynolds authorized a disaster proclamation effective through March 15th after the USDA confirmed a positive case of highly pathogenic avian influenza in a Buena Vista County commercial turkey flock.
The proclamation allows state resources from Iowa Homeland Security, the Iowa Department of Agriculture and Land Stewardship, and other agencies to assist with tracking and monitoring, rapid detection, containment, disposal, and disinfection.
Poultry products remain safe to eat. Producers should contact their veterinarian immediately if they suspect signs of bird flu in their flocks.
