No criminal charges are being filed in a shooting incident in Battle Creek back in May that resulted in the death of a man.
Late in the morning of May 24th, 22-year-old Branden Wingert allegedly shot 53-year-old Kevin Blume (pictured above) with a .22 caliber handgun following an altercation in the 300 block of East 5th Street in Battle Creek. Authorities found Blume suffering from a single gunshot wound. He was taken to MercyOne Siouxland Regional Medical Center in Sioux City, where he died a few days later.
The Ida County Sheriff’s Office states that Wingert is not being charged “based on the facts and circumstances of the incident, and Iowa’s self-defense laws.” The Ida County Attorney’s Office and the Iowa Attorney General’s Office were also involved in the case.
