Warm and drier weather allowed Iowa farmers nearly five days suitable for fieldwork last week, according to the crop progress report from the U.S. Department of Agriculture.
Just over four days were suitable for fieldwork in northwest Iowa.
Planting and replanting of corn and soybeans, as well as spraying, were limited due to wet field conditions.
Corn planting is almost complete with 89 percent emerged, which is nine days behind last year and two days behind the five-year average. 91 percent of northwest Iowa corn has emerged. 73 percent of corn statewide is considered good to excellent.
92 percent of the expected soybean crop statewide has been planted, which is equal to the five-year average. 75 percent of soybeans have emerged, which is nine days behind last year and one day behind the average. 76 percent of northwest Iowa soybeans have emerged. 73 percent of soybeans statewide are considered to be in good to excellent condition.
In northwest Iowa, 70 percent of topsoil has adequate moisture, with 29 percent surplus, and only one percent short. 76 percent of subsoil in northwest Iowa has adequate moisture, with 21 percent surplus, and three percent short.
