The Storm Lake City Council on Monday held another work session regarding a possible trap-neuter-return program regarding stray cats in the community.
Council member Maggie Martinez said it’s time to stop talking about it and do something…
Martinez and council member Meg McKeon pointed out TNR programs have been successful in other communities in the area including Sioux Rapids and Sac City.
Council member Kevin McKinney is especially concerned about the “return” part of the program…
The non-profit group “Caring Paws Rescue” was formed recently to address the feral cat and stray dog problems in the community.
McKeon urged the other council members to do their research on the program, and suggested the city to move forward with the draft ordinance presented by the city attorney, which was ultimately agreed upon. A public hearing will be held at the next council meeting on July 15th for the first reading of the ordinance on August 5th.
