In recognition for his outstanding dedication and achievement, Maverick Warburton, a criminology & criminal justice major has been named Buena Vista University’s Online Programs Student of the Year.
This award celebrates a student who has demonstrated academic achievement, impressive leadership characteristics in their place of work and communities, and a dedication to the university’s motto of education for service.
“I feel honored and grateful to be selected as this year’s online programs student of the year,” said Warburton. “It took a lot of hard work to get to this point between working full-time and being a full-time student so it’s nice to see my hard work paid off.”
Warburton embarked on his BVU journey after graduating with a criminal justice associate degree from Iowa Lakes Community College. Inspired by his sister’s success with BVU’s online teaching program, Warburton followed in her footsteps knowing it would provide him with the flexible schedule he wanted to continue to work and pursue a bachelor’s degree.
Online classes proved to be the ideal option for Warburton. “Online classes worked great for me because it gave me a lot of freedom,” he explained. “I was able to work during the day and do my homework at night, allowing for me to still enjoy my other hobbies while pursuing my degree.”
Warburton is excited to start a new chapter after graduation. He plans to start applying for law enforcement jobs in northwest Iowa to attend the Iowa Law Enforcement Academy and become a certified police officer.
