There ended up being a change in location for the Buena Vista County disaster exercise event on Tuesday evening.
The event was originally scheduled to be held on the railroad siding at the Platinum Crush plant between Storm Lake and Alta, but BV County Emergency Management Coordinator Aimee Barritt says it ended up being moved to the training ground behind the Storm Lake Fire Department…
The event simulated a vehicle carrying anhydrous that collided with a rail car which caused an anhydrous leak as well as a leak in the rail car…
Barritt said the agencies involved felt they benefited from their response to the incident and from the training they received. The event was planned by Buena Vista County Emergency Management, and involved the Storm Lake, Alta, and Newell Fire Departments, as well as the BVRMC EMS Ambulance Crew.
Seven Storm Lake High School students portrayed victims in the exercise. A full-scale disaster exercise is held every year in Buena Vista County.
