The Buena Vista County Conservation’s annual fishing derby will be held this coming weekend on Free Fishing Weekend in the state.
The event is open to kids ages six to 15 on Saturday, June 3rd from 9am to 11am south of Sioux Rapids at Gabrielson Park/Gustafson Lake. Prizes will be awarded for the heaviest single fish and the heaviest stringer of three fish. There will be two divisions, one for six through ten year olds, and a division for 11 to 15 year olds.
Participants should be present by 9am Saturday to sign in. Children under the age of ten must be accompanied by an adult. Reservations are required by tomorrow (Fri). Call the BV Conservation Office to register at 712-295-7985.
Iowa residents can try fishing without buying a license this coming Friday through Sunday, June 2nd through the 4th as part of the Iowa DNR’s Free Fishing Weekend.
