Key faculty members and a recent graduate from Buena Vista University’s Professional School Counseling Master of Science in Education Program will be presenting at the upcoming Iowa School Counselor Association Conference.
The theme is “Light The Future” and the conference will happen this coming Sunday, November 5th through Tuesday, November 7th in Des Moines.
Dr. Renee Fensom, Program Director of BVU’s Professional School Counseling Program, will be co-presenting a session titled “Counseling Biracial Students : Nurturing Identity and Well-Being. Fensom will be presenting alongside recent BVU graduate Crystal Hale, who is now a counselor for the Earlham Community School District.
Another presentation will be delivered by Dr. Kris Meyer, who is an Instructor of Professional School Counseling at BVU. Dr. Meyer’s session titled “Lighting the Future with the Wisdom of the Past” will explore the importance of incorporating historical knowledge into future counseling practices.
Dr. Meyer will also be part of a panel presenting “Show and Tell : Tried and True K-8 Classroom Instruction Ideas for School Counselors.” The interactive session will provide practical ideas for effective classroom instruction.
The Iowa School Counseling Association supports and advocates for school counselors across the state. The Association strives to ensure counselors can implement counseling programs aligned with the American School Counseling Association National Model.
