Local residents are advised to be aware of a phone scam where the caller is claiming to be from the Buena Vista County Sheriff’s Office.
On Wednesday, the BV Sheriff’s Department says they received calls from residents who stated that the caller falsely claimed to be with the BV County Sheriff’s Office. The caller claims that the recipient of the phone call has missed jury duty, and is required to pay a fine or turn themselves in to be arrested unless they send funds via wire transfer to a provided code. The calls have displayed the BV Sheriff’s number and utilized their office address.
The Buena Vista County Sheriff’s Office warns that this is a scam, and do NOT comply if you receive such a call. If you have any questions, call the office at 749-2525.
