A disaster proclamation has been signed for Pocahontas County after the USDA confirmed a positive case of bird flu in a commercial turkey flock.
The proclamation allows state resources to be used from Iowa Homeland Security, the Iowa Department of Agriculture and Land Stewardship, and other agencies to assist with tracking and monitoring, rapid detection, containment, disposal, and disinfection. The proclamation also waives regulatory provisions related to commercial vehicles responding to affected sites.
A disaster proclamation was issued Friday in Buena Vista County following the confirmation of bird flu in a commercial turkey flock. The recent avian influenza detection in birds doesn’t present an immediate public health concern, and it remains safe to eat poultry products. Producers should contact their veterinarian immediately if they notice signs of bird flu in their flocks.
