Battle Creek Man Sentenced to Prison for Operating While Intoxicated

A Battle Creek man was sentenced to prison this week in Buena Vista County District Court for multiple operating while intoxicated offenses.

In late March, 51-year-old Donald Wilson pleaded guilty to Operating While Intoxicated Third or Subsequent Offense, a class D felony. He was sentenced to serve up to five years in prison.

On the evening of October 14th, 2021, Wilson was involved in a motor vehicle accident at the intersection of Highway 7 and Lake Street in Alta. An investigation determined that the vehicle Wilson was operating struck a vehicle in his lane that was ahead of him. Wilson then backed up and struck the vehicle again, then backed up and struck the vehicle behind him, and then struck the vehicle that was ahead of him for a third time. Wilson admitted that he consumed an alcoholic beverage, and an open container was located inside his vehicle. Wilson’s blood-alcohol content was under .08, but it was determined that he was also impaired due to benzos.
