Awaysis Lighthouse Has Reopened

The Storm Lake Awaysis Beach Lighthouse has reopened for public use after being closed for approximately a year.

The lighthouse had been closed since last summer due to necessary renovations, and reopened on the 4th of July. Some delays were experienced in obtaining parts for the elevator system. The project included replacement of the hydraulic and controls systems, replacement of a portion of the elevator cabin, and a new emergency communications system.

The lighthouse was built as part of Project AWAYSIS in Storm Lake, which was completed in 2007. Visitors can access the observation deck by elevator or a staircase, which was replaced last year. King’s Pointe Resort handles daily operations of the lighthouse. Daily hours are from 8am to 8pm through the season. There is no charge to visit the lighthouse.
