Two inches of snow fell in the Storm Lake area yesterday (Wed) to go along with the six inches from earlier in the week.
More snow is expected to arrive soon, as a Winter Storm Warning will be in effect from this (Thur) afternoon through tomorrow (Fri) night.
According to the National Weather Service, around eight inches of snow is expected in the Storm Lake area from late this (Thur) evening into tomorrow (Fri). Between five and ten inches of snow is expected for much of the state.
Along with that, the wind is expected to pick up through the day on Friday with gusts getting as high as 45 miles per hour by Friday afternoon. This may lead to near-whiteout conditions, especially in open and rural areas. Hazardous travel is expected starting late tonight (Fri) into at least early Saturday.
If you must travel, the National Weather Service encourages you to keep an extra flashlight, food, and water in your vehicle in case of an emergency. The latest road conditions for the state can be obtained by calling 5-1-1.
