Another Case of Bird Flu Confirmed

Governor Reynolds today (Mon) authorized a disaster proclamation for O’Brien County due to a case of the bird flu.

The USDA confirmed the positive case of highly pathogenic avian influenza in a flock of commercial layer chickens. The proclamation is in effect through January 15th.

The proclamation allows state resources from Iowa Homeland Security, the Iowa Department of Agriculture and Land Stewardship, and other agencies to assist with tracking and monitoring, rapid detection, containment, disposal, and disinfection. The proclamation also waives regulatory provisions related to commercial vehicles responding to affected sites.

This is the 5th confirmed case of avian influenza in northwest Iowa this month.

Producers should contact their veterinarian immediately if they suspect signs of bird flu in their flocks.
