Altercation Leads to Arrests of Two Storm Lake Men Over the Weekend

An altercation in which one individual tried to run over another individual with a vehicle early this past Saturday morning led to the arrests of two Storm Lake men.

At approximately 2am this past Saturday, Storm Lake Police responded to the 800 block of Ontario Street regarding two 911 calls in the area. Witnesses directed officers towards two individuals who were involved in an altercation prior to officers arrival.

Police determined 19-year-old Gerardo Luna confronted 45-year-old Fernando Veliz, who was seated in his vehicle in the 800 block of Ontario Street. Luna then reportedly entered the passenger side door and struck Veliz in the face with a closed fist. Luna allegedly exited the vehicle, at which time Veliz made several attempts to run Luna over with his vehicle. Veliz then exited the vehicle and confronted Luna, at which time an adult female attempted to separate the two when Veliz allegedly struck her in the face with a closed fist. Police further allege the altercation stemmed from an ongoing disagreement between the two men, who were taken into custody on scene without incident.

Luna (pictured above) was charged with 2nd Degree Burglary, class C felony. He was booked into the Buena Vista County Jail on a ten-thousand dollar bond.

Veliz (pictured below) was charged with Assault With a Dangerous Weapon, an aggravated misdemeanor…and Assault and Reckless Driving, both simple misdemeanors. Veliz was booked into the BV County Jail on a 23-hundred dollar bond.

There were no injuries reported to police in the incident.
