An Alta resident was appointed as a district judge Thursday by Governor Reynolds.
Andrew Smith will serve as a district judge in Judicial District 3A. He currently serves as a district associate judge in the district. Judicial District 3A includes Buena Vista, Cherokee, Clay, O’Brien, and Palo Alto counties. Smith fills a vacancy created following the resignation of John Sandy, who was recently appointed to serve on the State Court of Appeals.
Smith received his undergraduate degree from Northeast Missouri State University, and a law degree from the University of Iowa College of Law.
