Alliant Energy is requesting permission to increase both its electric and natural gas rates.
Alliant is asking the Iowa Utilities Board for a 7.7 percent increase for electricity, and a five percent increase for gas. The overall impact on customers’ bills will vary depending on the amount of energy they use.
Alliant says they are requesting the increase to prepare for the energy-changing landscape including investments in its natural gas system by replacing aging materials, installing new inspection and safety equipment, and upgrading existing infrastructure.
The IUB plans to review Alliant’s requests in approximately ten months. The changes would go into effect late next year if they are approved.
